From the beginning, Ed and Mary Anne Foss, owners of a 1928 English country-style home, made it clear they wanted a kitchen island as part of a remodeling project with RWA Architects, a custom residential architectural firm in Hyde Park.
“The existing structure and site weren’t large enough to allow for a proper kitchen expansion that would create more traffic space to make maneuvering around an island easier,” says Douglas E. Burkey of RWA. A peninsula layout was used instead of the island, eliminating some of the circulation constraints, and a rolling cart/island was added to provide extra counter space when it is needed.
