Carriage House Remodel in Covington

This project is located in the heart of the Licking Riverside Historic District of Covington, nestled where the Licking River meets the Ohio. Built in the mid-1800’s, the goals of our client were to not only update the interior spaces, but to also provide a new exterior space to capture the picturesque views of the Cincinnati skyline. The unfinished attic space was transformed into a cupola/rooftop bar, clad in materials that relate it back to the main house. Additionally, a two-sided roof deck was carved out of the existing form, offering views West towards Covington and North towards Cincinnati. On the interior, the new hardwood was milled from old timber beams from the demolished US Playing Card Company in nearby Norwood. This was among the many material choices that freshened up the space, while being cognizant of the historic aspects of the project.
